Lochee Utd 5 Dundee Utd XI 1
Two second half goals from new signing George Johnston saw Lochee United run out comfortable winners in this friendly against a youthful Tannadice team at Thomson Park.
The Bluebells opened the scoring after only two minutes, Reece RITCHIE netting from close range. However, the lead lasted only five minutes. With Lochee claiming for offside the ball was swept across the face of the home goal and prodded home by United’s number 10.
Lochee restored their lead on 28 minutes when a great ball from Grant Lawson saw the ball knocked home by Kevin BUCHAN.
Four minutes from the break the home side increased their lead. A Danny Cavanagh corner kick was headed on to Greg KIRK at the back post and the Lochee skipper nodded the ball home.
The Bluebells made several changes at the break, Johnston, Scott McComiskie, Andy Ballantyne and Josh Gorton on for Lawson, Logan Davie, Danny Millar and John Sinclair.
On 51 minutes Cavanagh found McComiskie whose header fell to Johnston on edge of box and the newcomer drove the ball low past the visiting keeper.
Cavanagh’s deliveries into the box were posing problems for United and his ball from the corner hit the outside of the post.
There was good action at either end in the final 10 minutes with Johnston’s cross headed straight at the keeper by Kirk and Gorton saving well from United substitute No 18.
The youngsters’ skipper No. 4 fired in a 35-yard effort which soared over the Lochee bar but the home side had the final say two minutes from time when a cross by McComiskie found JOHNSON lurking at the back post and he sent ball high into the net to make it five.
