The Bluebells continued their indifferent form of late, going down 2-0 to GA Engineering Cup finalists Carnoustie Panmure at a rain-soaked Thomson Park.
The home team started the stronger with efforts by Greg Kirk and Reece Ritchie testing keeper Jamie Robbie, but it was the away team who created the first real chance and only a miskick by Ryan Dignan in front of goal kept the scoresheet blank.
At the other end Kirk forced a corner and Grant Lawson’s delivery for Paddy Deane was perfect, only for the striker to head over the bar.
The Gowfers replied with a Sam Simpson cross headed into the arms of Mark Fotheringham by Dignan.
However, the visitors did take the lead on 27 minutes. There appeared to be a foul on Danny Millar in the build-up and Ewan Buggins and Pat Martin both had shots blocked before DIGNAN forced the ball over the line.
A good move involving Stephen Mcnally and Kirk presented Deane with another chance but his shot was blocked by Robbie in the away goal.
Just before half time Deane had another chance after being put through by Lawson but was once again thwarted by the keeper.
The goalie also denied Bryan Deasley as the half drew to a close.
Lochee were quickly on the offensive at the start of the second half with Connor Birse’s shot hitting the top of the net and Deasley also firing over the bar but they came even closer when Millar’s header from a Cameron cross went narrowly over the top.
The Bluebells were on top at this stage with Cameron’s free kick being headed wide of his own goal by Carnoustie’s Alan Conway. Then, from a Cameron corner Deane headed wide of the target.
Another Cameron corner kick found Craig Smith at the far post but the defender’s header hit the side netting. Cameron himself had a pot shot at goal but his shot went wide.
The home team were stung on 75 minutes when the Gowfers increased their lead against the run of play. A corner from the right was headed back across goal and Adam HARWOOD was there to head the ball into the net.
Lochee tried to get back into it but the Carnoustie defence held firm. Their best chance fell to Deane 10 minutes from time but he just failed to connect with Ritchie’s cross.
Carnoustie will be well pleased with this result as Lochee ran out 5-0 winners last time the two teams met, but there was little chance of a repeat scoreline on this occasion.
