Lochee United vs Dundee North End – Match Report

After a good start with a goal from Kerr Hay in four minutes, Lochee proceeded to struggle and North End took advantage around the twenty minute mark. The rest of the first half Lochee were second best with the visitors working well for each other particularly in their midfield. At this time there was no real pressure on the home side but a bad call from the linesman awarding a corner when it was clear to players and supporters the ball had played off a visiting player and should have been a goal kick to Lochee. From the corner the home side failed to clear despite having a number of chances to do so and Jamie Montgomery calmly tucked the ball home 36 minutes to level the match.

Second half was only a couple of minutes old when the visitors went in front from a good Farquarson header but from a Lochee viewpoint where the hell was our defenders as Farquarson was totally unmarked giving Adam in the goal no chance. Game on !

Despite being behind we were sloppy in our play and could have lost a third but for the post and a good reaction from Grant Adam. For some strange reason our slick passing play was missing today as we continued to struggle during the half.

Two changes were made bringing on McComiskie and Buchan for Johnston and Milne. This did bring a wee bit more effort and with the clock ticking down we seemed to get our game going and it was no surprise when Kevin Buchan got on the end of a superb cross from Kerr Hay and directed a perfect header past Ferrie in the North End goal to level the match.

Not a good performance but the players don’t need me to tell them that, what counts is they never gave up and we got the point at the end of the day.

As for North End, credit where credit is due, despite losing the early goal they played well and will feel unlucky losing what they probably saw as a win. Young side who will take points off other teams.

My man of the match goes to a visiting player, Brian Rice ! Well done to both teams.
