Tayport vs Lochee United – Match Report

A tale of two halves! Lochee United were very fortunate to go in at halftime one a piece after putting in a very poor performance. Our only shot of the half Thain the home keeper had to deal with, was when Danny Cavanagh was played in from a Lawson free kick and calmly shot past him to level the score. Prior to that we had Josh Gorton to thank for a couple of good saves. Dayle Robertson had missed an easy chance early in the game but stabbed home on 30 minutes to give the hosts the lead.

Second half saw a much improved Lochee who dominated and missed a great chance on 48 minutes when Milne with only Thain to beat tried to place the ball but the keeper managed to dive to his right and smother the ball. However the second goal was coming and when Kerr Hay got on to a great Ewan Murray ball down the left, he made no mistake shooting past Thain. From that point on, there was only going to be one winner. George Johnston who came for Cavanagh was only on the park a minute when he was played in down the right hand side from a fantastic Buchan pass, George had far too much pace for the defender and cut the ball back beautifully to Kev Milne who swept it home from 12 yards on the 80th minute. With three minutes remaining Murray chased a ball down the left and got to it before the defender then swung over a cross ball with Thain looking like he was getting to it first but Johnston sped past him and knocked it home for our fourth goal.

The players showed great character for the second half performance and fully deserved the win. My man of the match is an easy one… every player for the attitude and will to win when things were not looking to good in the first half. Well done management and players. A big thanks to the large Lochee support today who back the side throughout.
